In Florida we do not usually have furnaces, but instead electric heat strips are used when heat is needed. If you have a Heat Pump System, there is an electric heat strip for back-up heat when the Heat Pump goes into defrost on a chilly Florida day. The electric heat will come on while the Heat Pump is defrosting.
